Suzi Doss
Growing up an only child, Suzi was probably given pencil and paper in an attempt to keep her still and quiet during church. She has drawn, painted or sculpted ever since.
Although she is versed in several types of media, she finds sculpting to be her favorite for its meditative quality. She derives great pleasure in seeing the ideas in her mind exit through her hands and appear in the clay.
"I love clay - it is so primal. I love the idea that I can take a wad of mud, form it with my hands, and fire it so that it becomes a permanent object - this aspect of ceramics still mystifies and charms me no matter how many times I see it happen. The fact that people all over the world have been doing this for thousands of years is pretty cool too."
In her subject matter, she communicates a message about beauty. She delights in the ample curves and fluid forms of the female figure and doesn't shy away from mature bodies that show their years of wear.
"I think that the human body, in ALL its forms and ages, is truly wondrous and astounding. Beauty should not be limited to only the thin, perfect, or young."
Suzi is a Native Floridian and was raised in pre-Disney Orlando. With her husband, she has fostered over 30 rescued greyhounds and raises reptiles as a hobby.
